Das Gemälde wurde 1947 dem Kunsthistorischen Museum "gewidmet", die Widmung stand in zeitlicher Nähe zur Gewährung einer Ausfuhrgenehmigung.
Der Kunstrückgabebeirat empfahl 2008 die Rückgabe an die ErbInnen nach Rudolf Gutmann. Danach gelangte das Bild zur Versteigerung bei Christie's London, Important Old Master & British Pictures, evening Sale, 2 December 2008, Lot 15.
