Das Objekt wurde am 13. September 1940 dem Kunsthistorischen Museum Wien aus dem Zentraldepot zugewiesen (KHM, 9/PL/1940/41).

Nach dem Krieg wurde es zwar formal restituiert, aber 1947 – gemeinsam mit anderen Objekten der Rothschildsammlungen – von Clarice Rothschild der Sammlung für Plastik und Kunstgewerbe (später: Kunstkammer) des Kunsthistorischen Museums Wien "gewidmet", um im Gegenzug eine Ausfuhrbewilligung für die restliche Sammlung zu bekommen (BDA-Archiv, Restitutionsmaterialien, K. 53, M. 4, Zl. 4463/47, fol. 27–56).

Das Astrolabium wurde in der Sammlung für Plastik und Kunstgewerbe (später Kunstkammer) inventarisiert. 1999 wurde es restituiert (vgl. Restitutionsbericht 1998/1999, S. 3).
